What is DBT?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy is a way to increase your ability to cope with overwhelming emotions, improve your ability to interact with others, and take better care of yourself. It is a form of Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and also incorporates mindfulness and other elements of Eastern philosophies.
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a trauma-focused therapy that is designed to both relieve symptoms of PTSD (like recurrent nightmares and flashbacks) and also help you change your beliefs about yourself and the world around you. EMDR is one of two therapies approved by the Veterans’ Administration to treat PTSD in combat veterans, and it has also been shown to be effective in treating other forms of trauma as well.
What is CBT?
Cognitive Behavior Therapy starts with the simple idea that our thinking and beliefs influence our emotions, and that our emotions drive our behaviors. So by “thinking better,” we will almost certainly feel better, and consequently make better decisions. Numerous research studies have CBT to be effective in treating anxiety, depression, substance use, trauma, and other disorders.
What is Solution-Focused Therapy?
As its name implies, Solution-Focused Therapy is a therapy method that emphasizes solutions rather than problems, encouraging you to identify the skills and resources you already have, and use them to overcome problems that may have seemed insurmountable. Key to this therapy is the idea that progress can be measured in baby steps, and that small victories matter.
Why Choose Couple Therapy?
Treating relationship problems is different from working on personal goals. Couples often need to improve their communication — which means both partners learn to say what they mean more effectively, but also listen more actively to what their partner is saying. Learning this important skill takes practice, and the best way to practice is with both partners involved in the process.
